PhD Position in Shannon Theory for Modern Compression Methods

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join the Institute of Communications Engineering at TU Dortmund. The position is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and focuses on Shannon Theory for Modern Compression Methods, combining information-theoretic analysis with modern data compression and learning-based methods. Candidates should have a strong background in probability theory and Shannon theory, as well as good knowledge of PyTorch.

The position is full-time, paid according to TV-L E13, and offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD while working as a Research Associate (WiMi).
The starting date is flexible, but the candidate should be able to start in Dortmund no later than April 2027 and have completed a relevant Master’s degree by then.
