0 Many changes have occurred in the S&K team since the last major team meeting in May 2023 . Numerous new research projects have emerged in the field of language and communication. At the same time, the team has steadily grown and changed. Both research assistants and many new research assistants have joined the team, which is why the main focus of the meeting this time was to get to know each other. There was also plenty of time and space to share experiences and wishes as well as suggestions for improving organizational structures. A special feature of the meeting this time was a very informative and insightful workshop on stress management led by Ms. Wiese from the Psychological Counselling Center, for which the S&K team would like to take this opportunity to thank her once again. The big team meeting traditionally ended with pleasant conversations over coffee and cake from the buffet. The S&K team is already looking forward to the next big team meeting. Thank you for attending and for your valuable support of the team on a daily basis. …

Congratulations to Khaled Kassem (TU Wien), Alia Saad (University of Duisburg-Essen), Max Pascher (ihri, TU Dortmund), Martin Schett (TU Wien), and Florian Michahelles (TU Wien) for this incredible achievement on their paper " Push Me: Evaluating Usability and User Experience in Nudge-based Human-Robot Interaction through Embedded Force and Torque Sensors." They will present their work at the upcoming Mensch und Computer conference from 01. September to 04. September at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). …
0 They showcased advancements in particle design, innovative processing technologies as well as modeling and simulation. It was an incredible opportunity to engage with industry leaders, exchange knowledge, and explore the latest trends shaping the future of solids processing. A huge thank you to everyone who attended the presentations and contributed to the vibrant discussions. …
0 Ronja Weidemann used the biological stage of wastewater treatment to explain the background to her PhosFad research project. This biotechnological approach to phosphate recovery uses a filamentous bacterium that extracts phosphate from municipal wastewater, for example, and makes it available again for the circular economy after treatment. The visitors were able to observe the unusual size of the bacterium and its gliding movements through a microscope. The laboratory tours, conducted by Jörg Fischer and Jan Graw, through the genetic engineering S2 facility, where the research work on some of the laboratory equipment was explained on the basis of projects carried out at the Chair of Technical Biochemistry, also met with great interest. …
0 The talk was presented at the 8th IFAC conference on nonlinear model predictive control. We would like to thank the organizing committee for having the outstanding opportunity to present our latest research. Aquifer thermal energy storages (ATES) are used to temporally store thermal energy in groundwater saturated aquifers. Typically, two storages are combined, one for heat and one for cold, to support heating and cooling of buildings. This way, the use of classical fossil fuel-based heating, ventilation, and air conditioning can be significantly reduced. Exploiting the benefits of ATES beyond “seasonal” heating in winter and cooling in summer as well as meeting legislative restrictions requires sophisticated control. We propose a tailored model predictive control (MPC) scheme for the sustainable operation of ATES systems, which mainly builds on a novel model and objective function. The new approach leads to a mixed-integer quadratic program. Its performance is evaluated on real data from an ATES system in Belgium.
